GSA Participates in an Industry–Government–Academia Discussion on the Practical Implementation of 3D Forest Data

On December 9, 2025, GSA Corporation participated as a speaker in the “Industry–Government–Academia Discussion on the Practical Implementation of 3D Forest Data, Starting from Hyuga Forest,” held at the Okura Chiba Hotel.

The event was organized as the second training seminar under a new business development support program led by the Chiba Prefecture Surveying, Design and Compensation Consultants Cooperative Association. Representatives from government, academia, private companies, and the surveying industry gathered to discuss how 3D forest data can be applied to forest management, forestry operations, surveying services, and related fields.

In the first session, Associate Professor Akira Kato of Chiba University delivered a presentation on the importance of forest surveying and the potential for new businesses based on the use of 3D forest data.

In the second session, Shuichi Watanabe, President and Representative Director of GSA Corporation, participated as a panelist alongside representatives from Sammu City, Chiba University, and GREEN TOPIA FOREST.

GSA introduced its initiatives involving forest 3D surveying using the below-canopy autonomous drone and AI analysis software developed by Sweden-based Deep Forestry AB, as well as the potential applications of this technology in Japan.

The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including the use of 3D data collected beneath the forest canopy, collaboration with surveying companies, the introduction of advanced technologies into Japanese forest environments, and approaches to practical implementation through cooperation among government, academia, and the private sector.

3D forest data is expected to support a broad range of applications, including forest resource assessment, harvesting and management planning, forest administration, research and development, and vegetation management around infrastructure assets.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to discuss how forest measurement technologies can move beyond demonstration projects and toward practical use in actual operations and commercial applications.
