GSA Corporation has begun offering sales and implementation support in Japan for the below-canopy autonomous drone and AI-powered analysis software developed by Deep Forestry AB of Sweden.
The Deep Forestry drone is designed to fly autonomously beneath the forest canopy, even in environments where GPS signals may be weak or unavailable. It detects and avoids surrounding trees while collecting detailed three-dimensional data from within the forest.
The collected data is processed using Deep Forestry’s dedicated AI software to generate 3D point-cloud models of the forest and detailed information on individual trees, including their location, height, diameter at breast height, stem shape, and estimated timber volume.

Forest surveys have traditionally required workers to enter the forest and measure trees individually. Deep Forestry’s technology is expected to improve the efficiency of these surveys, reduce the workload required in the field, and enable the digitalization of detailed forest information that has previously been difficult to collect.

– Forest resource assessment
– More efficient forest inventories and individual-tree surveys
– Logging and forest management planning
– Creation of 3D digital twins of forests
– Forest research by universities and research institutions
