GSA Corporation co-hosted a private seminar with Chiba University on April 10 and 11, 2026, in a forest in Sammu City, Chiba Prefecture, to introduce Deep Forestry’s below-canopy autonomous drone technology.

The seminar, believed to be the first event of its kind in Japan, introduced the key features of the autonomous forest drone developed by Sweden-based Deep Forestry AB, as well as its applications in 3D forest surveying and data analysis.

The event attracted many participants from across Japan, including representatives from the forestry sector, universities and research institutions, surveying companies, and infrastructure companies.

Despite adverse weather and strong winds on April 10, many participants traveled long distances to attend the seminar. In response to requests from attendees, we attempted a flight demonstration; however, the drone was unable to complete a stable demonstration due to the challenging weather conditions. Instead, we presented the aircraft, the data analysis system, and previously collected 3D forest data, followed by valuable discussions on potential applications of the technology.

On April 11, we were fortunate to have favorable weather conditions and successfully conducted a live autonomous flight demonstration in the forest. Participants were able to observe the drone navigating beneath the forest canopy while avoiding trees, as well as the overall process of collecting forest data. The demonstration generated significant interest and led to many questions and constructive discussions.

The seminar provided an important opportunity to demonstrate this advanced technology and explore its potential applications in forest surveying, infrastructure management, research and development, and other fields.
