GSA Corporation entered into a joint research agreement on August 19, 2026, with the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI), part of the Forest Research and Management Organization, regarding forest 3D measurement and analysis technologies.
Through this joint research, GSA and FFPRI will conduct practical evaluations aimed at improving the accuracy and efficiency of forest measurement by utilizing 3D data collected in forests and AI-based analysis technologies.
GSA has been working to advance the digitalization of forest resources by utilizing the below-canopy autonomous drone and AI analysis technologies developed by Sweden-based Deep Forestry AB.
Japan’s forestry sector faces a range of challenges, including the significant time and manpower required to assess forest resources, the burden of conducting surveys in steep terrain, and ongoing labor shortages.
Through this joint research, GSA aims to evaluate advanced forest measurement technologies in Japanese forest environments, including their measurement accuracy, operational efficiency, and practical applicability, with the goal of contributing to their future implementation in the field.
For GSA, this joint research represents an important step in further advancing its initiatives in forest 3D measurement and data utilization through collaboration with a leading research institution.
GSA will continue to strengthen collaboration with FFPRI, other research institutions, universities, government organizations, and stakeholders in the forestry sector, while promoting the digitalization and effective use of forest information to contribute to improved productivity in forest management and forestry operations.
